Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of the Netherlands.
The city has about 750,000 inhabitants, and was founded in 1275.
It has a rich and cultural history, and is one of Europe's most popular cities for tourists from around the globe to visit.
In a way, Amsterdam is synonym for Holland, although the country has much more to offer.
Amsterdam is a city of canals and boats, of museums and old 16th century houses, and of historical sites and sights.
But, it is also a city of a famous red light district (de Wallen), and of coffeeshops,
which sometimes give the city (and Holland) a bad name, which it doesn't deserve.

Skyscraper wise, it's the #2 city of Holland, behind Rotterdam,
although Amsterdam is slowly catching up a little.
The tallest buildings of Amsterdam can be found outside of the city centre,
which doesn't allow high-rises to protect the old historical buildings and streets.
You can find most skyscrapers in four different boroughs, Watergraafsmeer in the east,
where the two tallest buildings of Amsterdam can be found, Zuideramstel in the South,
where the World Trade Center buildings are located, Westpoort in the West,
and the Amsterdam Zuidoost area in the Southeast.
