Some Commerzbank Tower facts & figures:

- The Commerzbank Tower can be found in the city of Frankfurt, Germany,
and is part of the Commerzbank complex, which also consists of
Neue Mainzer Strasse 32-36, the old Commerzbank Headquarters;
the tower is officially an extension of this building;

- the building was designed by Foster+Partners;
- building costs were approximately 300 million us$
- the building was constructed from 1994 until 1997.
When topped out, it was Europe’s tallest building.
It overtook Frankfurt’s MesseTurm, which is two metres (seven feet) less in height;
- in December of 2003 the building lost its title of Europe’s tallest to Moscow’s Triumph Palace which is 264m tall;
- although the architectural height of the building is 259 metres,
the tower has an antenna on top which gives the skyscraper a tip height of
300.10 metres; Since it was not a part of the architectural design of the building,
the antenna is not included in the official height of the building;

- Commerzbank Tower was the first so-called "ecological skyscraper" in the world because of new technology used for heating and cooling,
by using skygardens and energy-saving technologies; a triangular atrium rises through the entire building from the ground floor,
divided by glass partitions. The atrium opens to the exterior wall at different levels, forming nine very large gardens;
The open areas allow more natural light in the building, reducing the need for unecologic artificial light;
- in order to eliminate the need of supporting columns in the sky gardens,
the tower was constructed in steel instead of the conventional (and cheaper) concrete.
It was the first skyscraper in Germany where steel was used as the main construction material;
- at night the building is illuminated in a changing yellow light scheme.
The schema was designed by artist Thomas Emde and was the winning result of a competition;
- the lobby of the tower is decorated with three life-like human sculptures by American sculpture J. Seward Johnson (1930);
- the tower has a gross floor area of over 120,000 square metres;
- about 2,100 people work in the tower;
- the top floor of the building is on a height of 190 metres;
- only the ground level plaza of the Commerzbank Tower is open to the public.
The building has no observation deck or floor, but a very good view of the building
is to be got from the viewing (roof) platform of the neighbouring MAIN TOWER.
