Above right: the city's centre seen from Rheinturm, with a few of its tallest buildings.

Düsseldorf is another German city founded by the Romans, some 2,000 years ago.
It got its name from being a small village (Dorf) on the banks of the Düssel, an affluent of the river Rhine.
These days, Düsseldorf is one of Germany's largest cities with almost 600,000 inhabitants.
The city is the capital of the federal state of Nord-Rrhein-Westfalen (Nordrhein-Westphalia),
and received municipal rights in 1288.
Skyscraper wise, the city may well be one of the 'smallest' cities of all the cities currently present
in the Skyscraper Picture Collection, but the city has a few distinctive tall buildings
(among others ARAG Tower) that make its inclusion a valid one.

Above: 34 pictures of Düsseldorf's tallest: ARAG Tower (125m/410f, 31 stories, 2000).
The building is situated outside the city centre area in the Northeast of Düsseldorf.
In this building, owned by and named after a large insurance company, 950 people work.
A main feature of the building is that it has a four 'Wintergarten' (gardens) floors (every 7th floor),
each two floors tall, which are for relaxation purposes, among others.

Above: LVA Hauptgebäude (123m/404f, 29 stories, 1976), Düsseldorf's 2nd tallest.
In the third picture the building is seen from Rheinturm.
The building was Düsseldorf's tallest from 1976-2000.
During the course of 2006, the building underwent renovation works.
The pictures with the crane show the building in its 2006 renovation state.

Above: VICTORIA-Haus (108m/354f, 29 stories, 1998).
Düsseldorf's third tallest building.

Above: for many years this was the city's tallest building: Thyssenhaus (95m/311f, 26 stories, 1960).
It lost this title in 1976 to LVA-Hauptgebäude.

Above: GAP 15 (90m/295f, 24 stories, 2005),
Düsseldorf's latest addition to its skyline.

Above: Vodafone-Hochhaus (89m/290f, 25 stories, 1955).
The city's tallest from 1955-1960.

Above: another view of Düsseldorf from Rheinturm.
In the picture, three of the city's tallest skyscraper can be seen:
Arag Tower (middle), VICTORIA-Haus (left), and Thyssenhaus (right).
