After a few successful years in Formula 1 with Ferrari, Michele
spent his last few years with inferior teams and material.
In his last six seasons in Formula 1 he only managed to achieve 13 points.
After his Formula 1 career was over, Michele achieved some moderate success in touring car racing
and sportscars. In 1997, he won the 24 hours of Le Mans, with Stefan Johansson and Tom Kristensen.
Michele was a racer in heart and for him there was no retiring.
His passion ultimately led to his death. In April of 2001, he crashed while testing an Audi sportscar
at the German Lausitzring circuit. He was only 44 years old.
