Above: Fabrizio Barbazza at Hockenheim in the 1991 AGS.
On the right picture he is being taken back to the pits by Pirro after his AGS broke down.
Fabrizio tried to qualify the AGS in 1991 for 12 races, but never succeeded.
He drove his first Grand Prix two years later, when he did eight
Grand Prix for Minardi, and managed to achieve two point finishes.
Before his brief and frustrating Formula 1 career, Fabrizio had been successful in the United States,
winning the inaugural Indy Lights Championship in 1986,
and finishing a strong third in the 500 Miles of Indianapolis in 1987.
In Formula 1 he had to bring a lot of money, but the equipment he received for that money
never matched his talent, and when the money ran out, his Minardi seat went to somebody else.
It was the end of his F1 career.
After his Formula 1 career was over, Fabrizio crossed the Atlantic once more.
In 1995, while racing a sportscar at Road Atlanta, Fabrizio was seriously injured in a crash.
As a result of the crash he suffered head and chest injuries which left him in a critical condition (coma).
Fortunately, Barbazza recovered, but he did not return to racing.
He retired, started a go-kart circuit in Monza and began designing crash barriers.
