Martin Brundle was the only driver who could match Ayrton Senna's talent
when both drivers fought for the British Formula 3 championship in 1983.
Senna won the championship, but Brundle was a strong 2nd.
Both drivers made their debut in Formula 1 in 1984 and both looked
destined to become world champions. Senna did, but unfortunately,
Brundle, despite all the talents, never became a Formula 1 champion.
Brundle made his debut with Tyrrell and scored his very first two points in his very first race.
In only his eight Grand Prix he scored his first podium (2nd), but because Tyrrell had
broken the rules that year (with ballast tanks), Brundle's racing results were cancelled
and the team and the Tyrrell drivers excluded from the 1984 championship.
In the following years Brundle was struggling with teams like Tyrrell, Zakspeed and Brabham.
He only managed to score a handful of points and in 1988 and 1990 he didn't compete in Formula 1,
except for a single race with Williams at Spa-Francorchamps in 1988.
His former Formula 3 competitor meanwhile had already won two world championships by 1991.
In 1992, Brundle finally looked like being able to race for victories, as a teammate
to Michael Schumacher at Benetton. He nearly won twice, but due to bad luck he didn't.
Still Martin scored 38 points and one 2nd place that year and finished 6th in the final standings of 1992.
In 1994, Martin scored one more 2nd place with McLaren, but by then his Formula 1 career
was almost over. At the Japanese Grand Prix of 1996 Martin Brundle drove the last Grand Prix
of his career, for Jordan. And like on his debut, he finished the race in 5th place,
scoring his last two world championship points.

A few weeks earlier, Martin had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in this car,
sharing it with Nielsen/Cobb.
In Sportscars Martin Brundle enjoyed his biggest successes in motor-racing,
winning Le Mans in 1990 and winning the FIA World Sportscar title in 1988
with Jaguar, winning five races (four with Eddie Cheever);
Brundle also won one race in 1987 (1000km of Spa; with Dumfries and Boesel),
and one in 1991 (at Monza with Derek Warwick).
These days, Martin Brundle is a commentator for British television,
runs a car showroom in the UK, has a sports management company
together with Mark Blundell (2MB), and is manager of David Coulthard.
