After a one-off race in 1986, Eddie Cheever made his CART-Indy debut in 1990,
after all his options for yet another year in Formula 1 had run out.
He drove in this American race category until 1996,
scoring one 2nd place and finishing 9th in the championship three times.
In 1990, he won the 'Rookie of the year' award
After the breakup in CART, he joined the newly founded IRL series.
He drove here from 1996-2002, and won five races,
one being the 500 Miles of Indianapolis in 1998; the highlight of his career.
In 2000, he finished 3rd in the final IRL championship standings.
In 1997, he founded his own IRL team, Cheever Racing.
He drove for his own team until 2002.
As a team owner in IRL Cheever is still active in motor-racing.

Eddie Cheever drove sportscars with Jaguar for three years.
Without a Formula 1 drive at that moment, he signed with Jaguar for the 1986 season.
With Derek Warwick he won the 6 hours of Silverstone.
With Raul Boesel the next year he was able to win three more races
(1000km's of Jarama, Silverstone and Nurburgring).
1988 was his most successful year in Group C with Jaguar,
winning four races (with Martin Brundle at Jarama, Monza, Silverstone, and Fiji).
