Above: Derek Daly at Zolder, the very first race he did with Williams, in 1982.
Derek Daly was a talented driver who was destined to shine in Formula 1,
but unfortunately, it didn't work out. He got his big break with Williams in 1982,
as a replacement of the retired Carlos Reutemann, but despite having nearly won
his second race (Monaco) for the team, the year was a disaster.
It meant the end of his Formula 1 career and Daly went across the Atlantic,
where he drove Indycars. In 1984 he smashed both his legs in a crash
at the Milwaukee super speedway. He returned to racing (sports cars), but retired in 1992.
Daly, now a US citizen, has his own racing school in Las Vegas
and is a racing commentator for American television.
