Above: Christian Danner in the Rial at Spa-Francorchamps in 1989 (left and right),
and in the Zakspeed also at Spa, but two years earlier (1987).

After having been the first driver who won the International Formula 3000 title,
Danner spent a few unsuccessful years in Formula 1, from 1985 til 1989.
His best result was a lucky 4th in 1989 at Phoenix after starting 26th on the grid.
In his last year with Rial, he only managed to qualify for four of 13 attempts.
After his Formula 1 career, Danner drove Indycar and touring cars.
Nowadays, like many of his former colleagues (Jacques Laffite, Martin Brundle,
Derek Daly, Ivan Capelli, Thierry Tassin), he is a commentator for (RTL) television.
