Beppe Gabbiani made his debut in Formula 1 at a very young age (21) at the end of 1978.
Unfortunately, he wasn't able to qualify himself for the two Grand Prix he was entered by Surtees.
He got another chance in 1981 with Osella, but it was not much better.
He could only qualify himself for three of 15 Grand Prix.
It meant the end of his Formula 1 career.
Beppe went back to Formula 2 racing and had two good seasons.
In 1982, he was first driver of the Maurer team, but was blown away
at the start of the year by his new and talented team mate, German Stefan Bellof.
Luckily, Beppe turned out to be a regular point scorer,
and he finished 5th with 26 points, and one 2nd and three 3rd places.
1983 turned out to be his best year in motor-racing.
He won four of the first five races of the F2 season, and looked set to clinch the title.
But, he lost his momentum and in the next seven races he only scored three more points.
This meant he lost the title and even the 2nd place to Jonathan Palmer and Mike Thackwell.
His strong beginning of the season had nearly brought him back to Formula 1,
but unfortunately it didn't happen. It also meant the end of his Formula 2 career.
Although he tried an unsuccessful Formula 3000 comeback in 1986 and 1987.
He failed to qualify for a race in 1986 and was a backmarker in two more in 1987.
It meant the end of his single-seater racing career.
In the following years, Beppe drove touring cars and sportscars.
