Above: Roberto Guerrero in his Ensign at Zolder in 1982.

Roberto Guerrero was the very first Colombian racing driver to reach Formula 1.
He wasn't very successful and after only two seasons he already had left F1.
He was more successful in the United States, where he started to race CART-Indy
after his Formula 1 career was over, and where he had both highs and lows, victories and accidents.
He raced CART and IRL from 1984 until 2001, and drove the Indy 500 fifteen times,
finishing 2nd twice (1984 and 1987) and 3rd once (1985).
In 1987 he had a testing accident at Indianapolis that left him in a coma for more than two weeks.
That same year he won two CART races and in 1992 he started from Pole-Position at
the Indianapolis 500 miles race, but spun on the parade lap.
Guerrero is now a US citizen who is still active in racing as a spotter in the IRL
(Indy Racing League) series.
