Jelinski was German Formula 3 champion in 1980 and 1981, and made his debut in Formula 2 in 1982.
In the Maurer, he managed to score three point finishes (4th, 5th and 5th), and finished 12th in the standings,
with 7 points. In 1983, he drove for Maurer again, but only scored one 6th place.
Jelinski never reached Formula 1, but became a succesful sportscar driver.

In Group C Frank Jelinski raced for Porsche.
In 1986 he won the 1000km of Spa together with Thierry Boutsen.
In 1989, he won the 480km of Dyon with Bob Wollek;
the only race that season that wasn't won by a Sauber-Mercedes.
