Alessandro Nannini was one of Formula 1 hottest upcoming stars in 1990.
He was signed by Ferrari for 1991, when he crashed his helicopter in September of 1990;
a crash in which his right forearm was severed.
Fortunately, thanks to microsurgery the limb was reattached.
But, unfortunately, it meant the end of his Formula 1 career and a possible Ferrari drive.
Nannini returned to racing and drove touring cars for a couple of years.
These days, he is the owner of several cafes and vineyards in Italy and Asia.

Alessandro Nannini drove in Formula 2 for three years (1982-1984); with Minardi.
In 1982 he made his debut at Silverstone, finishing a strong 5th, and collecting two points.
His only other point finish that year was in the last race of 1982, at Misano, where he finished 2nd.
Alessandro finished joint 10th in the 1982 Formula 2 Championship with 8 points.
1983 turned out to be his best F2 season, finishing 7th with 11 points, and one 2nd place.
At the Nurburgring, where he battled for the lead with Beppe Gabbiani for several laps.
In 1984, he finished 10th in the Championship with 9 points.
In 1985 Minardi debuted in Formula 1, and Nannini should have been their driver
but problems with a superlicence, meant that Nannini was not able to run in Formula 1 yet.
He raced in sportscars with Lancia in 1985 instead, but made his F1 debut one year later.
