the year after he had won the World Championship.
Before his World Championship with Williams in 1982,
Keke Rosberg had raced in Formula 1 for four years, for four different teams,
and had only scored six points, and one podium
(3rd with Fittipaldi at the Argentinean Grand Prix of 1979).
Keke had raced with inferior material, but had always showed his talent and raw speed.
In 1982, he finally got his chance with a top team: Williams.
He paid the trust the team had put in him back with the World Title,
but it is fair to say that he won that championship,
because both Ferrari drivers who could have won the title,
crashed on their way to that title - Villeneuve was killed at Zolder in May of 1982,
and Pironi was badly injured a few months later while leading the championship
during practice for the German Grand Prix.
Nevertheless, at the end of the year Keke was the man with most championship points,
albeit with only one win and only 44 championship points.
In the following years Keke won four more Grand Prix,
but never the championship again. His best was 3rd in 1985.
After a moderately successful year in 1986 with McLaren he retired.
After his motor-racing career, Keke set up his own Formula 3 team,
became the protégé of several Finnish drivers (Lehto, Hakkinen)
and is currently looking after the career of his son Nico Rosberg,
who races in GP2 and has tested F1 with Williams.
