Above: Derek Warwick in the Silk Cut Jaguar Group C sportscar at Spa-Francorchamps in 1986.

In 1986, without a Formula 1 drive at that moment,
Warwick started to concentrate on Group C racing with Jaguar.
(he had raced Group C before, and, among others, had won
the 1000km of Brands Hatch in 1983 with Porsche and co-driver Fitzpatrick)
In only the second race of 1986 he crossed the line in first place;
at the 6hours of Silverstone, together with Eddie Cheever.
At the end of the 1000km of Spa he narrowly missed victory;
he was beaten by Thierry Boutsen's Porsche by just a few yards.
Warwick returned to Formula 1 the next year, and left Group C racing.
In 1991, he returned to sportscars and Jaguar.
What was next were his two most successful years in motor-racing.
winning races with Jaguar in 1991 at Monza (with Brundle), Silverstone (with Fabi),
Nurburgring (with Brabham), and giving Jaguar 1st place in the championship.
In 1992, this time with Peugeot after Jaguar had pulled out of Group C Racing,
Warwick won at Silverstone (with Dalmas), at Le Mans (with Dalmas and Blundell),
and in Japan (with Dalmas). Warwick (with Dalmas) and Peugeot won the championship that year.
