MAIN TOWER facts & figures:
- The building was designed by Schweger + Partner,
and is Frankfurt’s 4th tallest skyscraper.
- Construction started in October of 1996; it was completed in October of 1999.
- Building costs were about 350 million euro.
- The tower's design features two towers packed together;
the circular (blue) glass tower and the cuboid shaped
(brown) one.
- The spire on top isn't included in the height of the building (with:
240m/787f).
It's the transmission mast of the Hessischer Rundfunk (hr), a TV broadcasting station.
The station also occupies the 53rd and 54th floors of the
building
- MAIN TOWER is the only high-rise building in Frankfurt that is accessible to
the public.
The building has a rooftop observatory, which gives excellent views
over downtown Frankfurt, and the surrounding areas.
Especially at night the views are breathtaking; costs to go up are €4,60.
- The building has 2,550 windows, 29 elevators (26 of which are passenger ones),
and there are 1,090 steps to the top.
- At the 187 metres level the tower has a restaurant.
- Total gross floor area of the building is 83,000 sq.m
(893,000 sq.f).
- During the Wolkenkratzer Festival of 2001, a
festival that is being held in the city every few years
and gives the inhabitants of the city and surrounding areas a chance to visit
the skyscrapers,
a car was suspended to the side of the
tower.
