Some
Two ifc facts & figures:
- Designed by Cesar Pelli & Associates
Architects, with Rocco Design Limited;
- the building is situated on Hong Kong Island in the Central district
and was built
entirely on reclaimed land;
- the tower is part of a US$2.8 billion complex,
which includes the shorter One ifc, the Four Seasons
Hotel and tower, a large
luxury shopping mall (ifc Mall, which features a
number of top fashion, health & skin care,
jewellery and accessory shops, restaurants, and a cinema) and Hong Kong
Station;
- several floors of the building are owned by The Hong Kong Monetary Authority;
- an exhibition area and a library of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority
Information Centre
occupy the 55th floor and are open to the public during office hours;
- Two ifc is one of a few buildings in the world
equipped with double-deck elevators;
in total the buildings has 42 high speed passenger lifts, 3 service lifts,
2 carpark lifts, and one executive lift which reaches
the 88th floor of the building;
- initial plans (around 1996) for the complex showed two 40-story towers;
following advice from property agents a single 88-story tower was built;
- construction started in January of 2000; construction ended in May of 2003;
- when construction had reached the 30th floor, the tragic events of 9/11
occurred.
It was a traumatic time for the project team as Two ifc has almost
the same height as the World Trade Center towers.
A four-week research and analysis period was undertaken by a
task force that included
a team of experts in fire, risk, security and structural engineering.
They gave feedback to industry and clients about the implications of 9/11 on
the design and construction of tall buildings.
In the design the withstanding of strong typhoons was
incorporated as well;
- Two ifc utilizes a range of sustainable and
environmental friendly features such as double-glazed curtain wall
with low e-coating, a seawater cooling system for air-conditioning and
maximizes the use of natural light;
- the building is part of A Symphony Of Light, a permanent nightly spectacle in
Hong Kong that combines interactive lights of 44 key buildings
on both Hong Kong Island and Kowloon with musical
effects to showcase the vibrancy and glamorous night vista of Victoria Harbour;
- the building has six basement floors and parking spaces for 1,800 cars;
- the total floor area of the tower
is185,805 mē
- The width of the tower is 56.960 meters (186.83 feet) at the base,
and 39.148 meters (128.41 feet) at the main roof;
- the ceiling of the top floor of the building is at a height of 401,9m
(1,318f);
- in 2010, Two ifc will lose its title of tallest
building of Hong Kong,
when International Commerce Center will be completed,
a 484m/1,588f tall tower that together with Two ifc
at the opposite side will
form an impressive gateway to Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour.
