Vienna’s history started some 2000 years ago when the Romans visited parts of
what we now call Austria and set up a camp next to the Danube River called "VINDOBONA"
Around 1273 the Habsburg family made Vienna their capital city and subsequently
Vienna developed into a city of European importance.
Many older buildings and palaces remind the visitor of its rich heritage.
Because of that heritage almost all of the tall buildings can be found in the suburbs and newer parts of the city.
Most of the skyscrapers can be found in Donaucity, a high-rise district that was created in the early Nineties
on the left bank of the Danube. It was formed around the United Nations Complex that had already been built in the mid-1970s.
In the 1999 completed Millennium Tower, Vienna and Austria have one of Europe’s tallest towers.

The tower has a total space of 47,200 m2.
38,500 m2 are in use as office space by some 120 different companies.

Above: Vienna Twin Towers (138m/453f, 37 stories, 2001).
Vienna's third tallest building.
Because the two office towers are connected for most of the total height,
they are counted as only one. For the record, the height of the smaller tower is 127m/417f, with 34 floors.

Above: IZD Tower (130m/427f, 37 stories, 2001).
A small part of the upper part of the office building extends 12 metres from the tower.
IZD can also be found in Donaucity.

A few more skyline views of Vienna. The first two are of Donaucity and its skyscrapers.
The last picture shows the six high-rise blocks of Wohnpark Alt Erlaa.
These high-rises are between 85 and 90 metres tall (279f – 295f), have between 23 and 27 stories,
and were constructed between 1977 and 1985. About 11,000 people live in these high-rise blocks.
